To strengthen Novozymes’ discovery and development of novel enzymes, we want to expand our current Microbial Discovery group with 2 Laboratory Technicians who have experience in molecular biology. The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research and development group in Bagsværd, Denmark and will be part of discovering new, naturally occurring enzymes that will be applied in a wide variety of industries.

Challenges
You will work primarily with DNA, cloning and expressing novel enzymes from a broad diversity of fungi. You will contribute to the analysis of gene sequence data using standard software packages. You will also participate in assaying and characterizing new enzymes.
You will have competent colleagues to support you and be part of a dedicated team to discover and further develop new enzymatic solutions.

Qualifications
You have training in molecular biology and are experienced in standard molecular biological techniques. You are skilled in DNA isolation, PCR amplification, and gene cloning, and preferably in transformation of a range of organisms such as E. coli, yeasts or filamentous fungi. Additionally, you have experience with assaying enzyme activity. Familiarity with standard DNA sequence analysis software would be advantageous.
You are comfortable working both independently and in teams. Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and a readiness to work in a multi-cultural environment are required.

Research Scientist – Molecular Biology (NZ1329)

Novozymes is seeking a Research Scientist for our Microbial Discovery unit in Bagsværd, Denmark. The Research Scientist will work on the discovery of novel enzymes and proteins from natural environments for application in a broad variety of industries, including the challenging and rapidly-growing biofuel industry. The position is for 1 year.

Challenges
The Research Scientist will be allocated in discovery projects with cross-functional teams of scientists, and will work with team members located in Denmark, China and the US. The scientist will identify new enzymes from a broad diversity of microorganisms.
More specifically the work will include:

• Selection of fungal enzymes by screening, bioinformatics and genome data mining
• Cloning enzyme-encoding genes and expression in eukaryotic systems such as Aspergillus and Pichia
• Preliminary characterization of recombinant enzymes
• Preparation of patent applications in conjunction with our patent department
• The position requires at least 80 % hands-on work at the bench.

Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess:

• A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology
• A strong background and working experience in molecular biology techniques, experience in bioinformatics and database mining, gene cloning and recombinant expression
• A proven record of innovation, including publications and/or presentations
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and a readiness to work in a multicultural environment.
