If you have a four-year degree and the desire to teach children - our program is for you! The Dallas ISD Alternative Certification Program is seeking individuals with a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in all areas who would like to become teachers. Selected candidates will go through a one-year teacher training program.
Please note that this teacher internship requires relocating to Dallas, TX. Relocation fees are not paid for by the school district.
Our Alternative Certification Program is one of the best teacher training programs in the state of Texas. We select 400-500 degreed individuals annually and train them to teach in the various areas of certification. Because of our 60% Hispanic student population, we are especially looking for bilingual (Spanish-speaking) individuals to teach elementary bilingual or special education classes. We also offer certification in the following secondary areas: English, math, science, high school Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, social studies, special education, art, bilingual education, and general elementary. Information about our program and the different certification areas is available on our website: http://teachfordallas.com
Selected candidates will begin training in a special 5-week training class and start teaching in an elementary or secondary school upon completion of the training class, once selected by a principal. Once in the classroom, the AC interns will have their own classes and will receive support from a mentor teacher, Alternative Certification coordinators, and building administrators.
Training classes are held Monday-Thursday, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and selected Saturdays. Classes begin July 23, 2012. This allows individuals to prepare to meet students on August 27, 2012.
Pre-Service Program Cost
$3000 plus the $600 mentor fee (this is payroll-deducted once you are selected by a principal and clear Human Resources; deduction spread over 12 months).
